Stern Rochlitz 9E91 (in English)

Beitrag von PJ. »

Hello,
recently I bought this nice model. Yesterday it came by mail, today I took some pictures. The condition was much better than I expected, as it turned out, except added DIN socket, this radio haven't seen a soldering iron outside a factory! Everything is in place, solder points colored, even dial lamps are original, signed by RFT. Unfortunately, beautiful AZ12 has one cathode broken...
The radio is enormous, a little bigger than Amati.

How often do you find a radio in such condition inside?
Do you think I should get it running?
I'm slowly convinced, I shouldn't repair it - as usual I'd have to replace many of that poor tar capacitors, and it wouldn't be as original anymore... I have enough working radios, so it's not so necessary, on the other hand, I didn't heard radio with EL12.
Too bad the case needs new coat of laquer - old one you can scratch with your fingernail.
I wonder, did anyone see a version with Gnomrohren? Even on Radiomuseum there's nothing...

PS. I hope everything is correct with pictures.

Regards,
Peter

My radio has this standard set: 6SH7, ECH11, 2x6SH7, 6H6, EBF11, EL12 and 6E5. Capacitors are dated from first half of 1953...
I saw this page on radiomuseum, but it seems in real life it's hard to find. Was it even manufactured? In Poland also were models pictured in technical magazines, but there was no real model...

I replaced some inwards (in Beethoven and AT-660) but it's hard to find capacitors that fit and it's a lot of dirty work.
I must think about it - this model is so rare that you can't make hasty decisions :)
And it's first time I see a radio with all original and painted solder joints.

Hallo,

Today I cleaned the chassis. I noticed complexity of tuning drive - total of 4 ropes. I think I will make a drawing, in case someone would need it.
drahtfunk, what shade was that darker housing? Similar to usual dark walnut? I must confess, I really like darker housings.
In radiomuseum.org there's a version with EM11, seems there were small construction changes, although probably schematics is the same.
UKW is here quite unusual, I like those early UKW devices, not usual ECC85 or 2xEC92.

And, does anyone knows why is there a sticker with "Friedenskampf - deine Pflicht" on the loudspeaker?

Hello,
Sorry I didn't edit my last post, but I treat this as a new step, so...

I did some work (stripping and painting) on a housing and radio now is completed. I decided not to get it running (for now), maybe in the autumn I will do something with those tar capacitors. That's because I prefer complete replacement.
Of course laquer finish isn't so ideal, there's always some dust waiting, but you can notice it from 10-20cm so I guess it's alright. Too shiny perhaps?
Radio looks now like that:

Now it's time to search for first Stradivari, Stradivari IV and some of those 7Exx...
